Preschool Math: Counting for Preschoolers Printable
One of the most unlikely favorite toys in our house are Rainbow Counting Bears. Both of my Preschoolers use them in their everyday play and we have used them for a number of learning activities as well.
The other day I decided to combine a counting mat that I had made with a few of the activities that my kids love to do. I printed a rainbow counting mat (up to 20) and got out our Rainbow Counting Bears. I cut out the numbers to line up with the rainbow colors on the mat, and got to work!
This simple set up held each of my kids' attention for a solid 10 minutes (shocking!). It definitely took some guidance - and a 'no eating the bears' rule - but at the end of the activity, I felt like everyone had learned something new and practiced something they already knew.
What We Practiced
For my 2.5 year old, we practiced counting up to 5 and identifying colors. He had fun putting the bears on the mat and moving them around. For my 3.5 year old, we practiced counting up to 20, identifying colors, and matching the number to the correct color on the mat. She was so proud when she could count all the way to 20!
This is one of those activities that can grow with your child. Start with counting to 5, then 10, then 20. Add in color sorting, pattern making, or even simple addition.
