Our Favorite Ocean Books for Preschoolers

We are a book-loving family, and ocean books hold a special place in our hearts. Over the years, we've collected quite the library of sea-themed stories, and these are the 15 we keep coming back to again and again.

Our Top Picks

These are the books that get requested at bedtime, during quiet time, and during our Letter O ocean-themed week. They range from silly to scientific, and each one brings something special to storytime.

Some are perfect for the youngest readers with bright illustrations and simple text. Others dive deeper into ocean facts and marine life, which our older preschooler loves. And a few are just pure fun — the kind of books that make everyone giggle.

How We Use Them

During our ocean week, we read 2-3 of these books each day. After reading, we'd do a related activity — sometimes a craft inspired by the book, sometimes a sensory activity, and sometimes just a great conversation about what we learned.

I love that these books spark curiosity. My kids ask the best questions after reading about ocean creatures, and it often leads to us looking up videos of real sea animals together.

If you're planning an ocean-themed week with your preschooler, any of these books would be a wonderful addition to your reading list!
