P is for Planets Preschool Activities

Blast off! Letter P week was all about planets, and my little astronauts were thrilled. We spent the whole week learning about our solar system through books, hands-on activities, and lots of imaginative play.

Planet Books

We read several space-themed books throughout the week. The kids were fascinated by the pictures of different planets and loved learning which planet is the biggest, which one has rings, and which ones are closest to the sun.

Playdough Planets

One of our favorite activities was making planets out of playdough. We used golf tees stuck into a foam base to hold each planet, creating our own little solar system. The kids mixed colors to match each planet and practiced putting them in order from the sun.

Learning Planet Order

We came up with silly sentences to remember the order of the planets. The kids thought it was hilarious and were reciting the order by the end of the week!

Space Sensory Play

I also set up a space-themed sensory bin with black beans, glow-in-the-dark stars, and small planet figurines. The kids loved scooping through the 'space' to find hidden planets.

This was one of those weeks where the kids' curiosity really drove the learning. They had so many questions about space, and it was wonderful to explore the answers together.
